IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR...YOU KNOW THE ONE...THE GIVING TIME

Welcome to the 2013 GIFT EXCHANGE!!!!!

This notice is coming out early so you'll have plenty of time to write, draw, photoshop, vid, or whatever other medium you work best in.

~ The sign up post will follow shortly

~ Sign ups will remain open until OCTOBER 30, 2013 11:59pm Eastern

~ Assignments will be sent out by November 4, 2013. I will make assignments and pair you up with your gift recipient. I wanted to get them out earlier in case anyone is doing a November writing challenge.

~ All gifts must be submitted to me at qafgiftxchnge @ gmail.com with the subject line: 2013 GIFT by 11:59pm Eastern December 29th, 2013. (this will give everyone a little extra time around the holidays)

~ Gifts will be posted December 30, 2013 to January 5, 2014
**If entries are received early, I'll start posting on the 26th of December

I hope many of you will participate. Last year there was about 37 gifts given, so come out, come out wherever you are, old fans and new! Let's make this year even bigger!

Like previous years, this exchange will be held on Livejournal and Insanejournal. You can sign up where you want, I will mix up all participants and then post all the gifts on LJ and IJ. That way everyone should be able to play. I'll also be spreading the word on Tumblr, so hopefully that will add even more participants into the mix.

RULES

  • Please don't sign up if you may not be able to fulfill your gift. IF an emergency happens and you can't participate, please let me know as soon as possible so I can beg someone to stand in so that no one goes giftless.

  • Please, NO Brian/Michael, no MPREG, no RPS. Everything else is fine.

  • Gifts cannot be posted in your own LJ, IJ or elsewhere until one week after they are revealed here.

  • All submissions have to be new and complete, everything else would be just plain rude. Find more rules about submitting your worksHERECollapse )

  • All submissions must be stand alone pieces created specifically for this fest. You may not submit a part of a work-in-progress as your submission, nor can you include fic/art/graphics that you've already posted elsewhere.

Submitting Your Work

All submissions should emailed to qafgiftxchnge @ gmail.com by the due date (Dec 29th).

In the subject line of your email, please include your screen name, gift for: [name], and title. This makes it so much easier for us to find and organize your work.

Please remember to copy, paste, and fill this out to include in your email along with your submission:

Adapt this to fit your needs, such as word count/length.

When submitting a fic:

  • Please be sure that it's been saved as an ".rtf", ".doc", or ".docx" format. Also, please include all html coding (bold, italic, underline) in your finished fic. If you're not familiar with html or don't know what the code is for a specific one, check it out here. I WILL be sending back fics that are not html coded as last year was a nightmare trying to break up posts for fics with giant character counts.

  • There is no maximum or minimum for the gift exchange, but the mods ask that you keep your plot bunnies in control. 100,000 word fics will probably make us cry because we scan each fic for glaring spelling/punctuation errors. If you exceed 8,000-9,000 words, the mods will have to break your fic into parts due to LJ character restrictions, and we will need to know where you want those breaks to occur.

  • Multi-chaptered fics will still be accepted, but nothing will be posted until the fic in its entirety is received. So please don't get in over your head if you're not going to be able to finish it by the due date.

  • Please make sure that you spell all character names and places according to their canon spellings. The mods will try to dig up a quick and dirty guide to QAF spellings as soon as we can.

  • While having your fic beta read is not a require, it is always encouraged.

  • The mods reserve the right to ask you to correct any spelling, punctuation, or grammar issues before your fic is posted.

  • If you are using Word to prepare your manuscript, please make sure to turn off smart quotes! Tools >> AutoCorrect >> AutoFormat As You Type >> Uncheck "straight quotes with smart quotes"

  • Please ensure automatic spaces before and after paragraphs are not a part of the document. These spaces should be put in by you manually. This helps when the doc is pasted into the LJ/IL html editor.

    When submitting a fanart/graphics:

  • Please include your art/graphic as an attachment in the email. OR the links to where you're hosting them.

  • When submitting a fanmix:
  • Please include a link to your fanmix in the email.

  • Please include any information (artists, titles, featured lyrics) that you'd like to be included with your download link in the body of the email or in a text document.

  • When submitting a fanvid:
  • Please include a link to your fanmix in the email.

  • Please include any information (artists, titles, featured lyrics) that you'd like to be included with your download link in the body of the email or in a text document.

  • ***If these formatting guidelines are not followed, you will be contacted and requested to make required changes.*** I will make every effort to match requests with talent. I will also make every effort to fulfill each request. However, if for some reason, your request cannot be fulfilled, I would hope that whatever is substituted will be accepted with gratitude and dignity and with the spirit in which is was intended.

Please feel free to pimp away...and beg all fans to come and participate. Questions? Ask away!

If you are going to do this, you need to do it before March 1st. It has been said that users will not be able to do anything about this after that date.

With reference to Google's policy changes and how everything you do with your Google account will be tied together into their super-cauldron of information, you will probably want to clear your Google Web History out - if you turned that feature on - before month's end. After that, you won't be able to clear it, and everything you search for will be connected with your account.

To check settings and/or clear out your Web History:

1. Go to Google. If you aren't signed in already, do so.
2. In the top right-hand corner you'll find your email address or name, perhaps an icon if you have a Plus account, and a little downward facing arrow. Click on the arrow and a menu will pop up.
3. Click to 'Account Settings'. This will take you to a page called 'Accounts'. (If you have a Plus account, you might go via a Plus sign-in page.)
4. Scroll down to a section called 'Services'. Here you'll find an option called 'View, enable, or disable web history', which has a link next to it. Click on the link.
5. If you never turned web history on, you'll get a page asking if you want to turn this service on. Just click 'No Thanks' and all is good. If you did turn it on, you should have a list of your searches. At the top there is a button that says 'Remove All History'. Click this and follow the instructions which will remove all items from your Web History and pause the feature so nothing else will be added in future.

Also, you can completely remove Web History as a service from your account by clicking THIS LINK, checking the tick-box and confirming you want to remove Web History. To be safe, it is probably best to do the steps above first to remove any history that might have already been collected.

Black March - Thursday March 1st 2012 to Saturday March 31st 2012 With the continuing campaigns for internet-censoring litigation such as SOPA and PIPA, and the closure of sites like Megaupload under allegations of 'piracy' and 'conspiracy' the time has come to take a stand against music, film, and media companies' lobbyists. The only way is to hit them where it hurts. Their profit margins. March 2012 is the end of the First Quarter in economic reports world wide. Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy. Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine. Wait the four weeks to buy them in April: see a film later, etc... Holding out for just four weeks, maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media companies profits for the first quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments world wide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes. This action will give a statement of intent: "We will not tolerate the Media Industries' lobbying for legislation that will censor the internet."
Original image and campaign source: reddit.

Edited to add my own thoughts (not part of the original reddit call for action) And if you do not feel like taking a total break and perhaps want just a trial separation or couple's counseling, then perhaps consider Black March Lite 2.0 = spend, but spend money on those content creators and independent retailers who came out against SOPA/PIPA.  And tell them why you're buying their products in March.  There are many of them.

And for those who favor the more targeted boycott, you can find info  here.  But no matter which,  you can participate and you can tailor your level of participation.  We have the tools, the will and the strength to take a stand.

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

COMMONWEALTH: TIME FOR A CHANGE

Originally posted by mander3_swishat COMMONWEALTH: TIME FOR A CHANGE

Right now, almost 80 countries around the world make it a crime to be gay, lesbian or transgender. In 10 of those nations, you can be sentenced to death or life behind bars. The majority of these nations share a connection - they are members of the Commonwealth - an organization bringing together 54 nations to collaborate on legal, cultural and economic development.

The Commonwealth leaders are gathering this week in Perth, Australia where Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary General of the Commonwealth, just gave a courageous speech calling on each of the Commonwealth nations to finally end discrimination and criminalization of LGBT people. It's historic, but hardly a done deal: Forces within the Commonwealth are working double-time to silence Sharma and others, giving nations that send gays and lesbians to jail a free pass for yet another year.

We need to support Secretary General Sharma and show the other heads of state that a massive global outcry is bubbling up in their own countries and demanding fairness. The meeting kicks off this Friday - we need thousands to join Commonwealth citizens around the world and sign on to our statement of support for Secretary General Sharma in the next 48 hours, making his call impossible to ignore.

Will you take a minute to add your name and share this letter far and wide: www.allout.org/wearenotillegal
